2016 December Clever Kids Newsletter

2016 Newsletter

Fostering Creativity and Innovation!

We are very excited to present our first ever Clever Kids Newsletter to our growing community!  In the summer of 2016, we founded the The Clever Kids Foundation (CKF). with a mission of fostering creativity and innovation in elementary-school aged children, by providing unique learning opportunities to our kids and enabling them to share their talents and brighten the lives of people in the community.

In this Newsletter we want to update you about CKF’s successful launch and our programming impact, by sharing accounts of our work around the community. We also will share details of upcoming events!

Thanks to everyone who has already supported us in this journey.   We welcome your feedback and suggestions and are looking forward to inspiring many Clever Kids in 2017!

Thanks for a great start.

David, Stephanie and Jessie

2016 Clever Kids Accomplishments by the Numbers

The Magic of Community – Fundraising Goal Surpassed!

“Thank you” to all the Clever Kids’ supporters for their time, commitment and contributions to making our 2016 Start-Up Campaign a success!

We set an initial fundraising goal for our 2016 Campaign of $10,000.  In just five short months, we have exceeded that goal by more than 20%! This awesome accomplishment was made possible thanks to the efforts and generosity of you, our fabulous supporters, friends and family.

The Magic of Giving Back – Volunteering

Kids volunteering makes a difference – to the children and to the community.  We held several volunteer events, which provided opportunities for kids to interact with members of our community and to understand the importance of service to others. The children loved sharing their talents and learned about giving back.

One parent claimed:

“Thank you for including us.  Our child enjoyed herself and exclaimed, “I would volunteer every day!”  I think what you guys are doing through Clever Kids is very special and a great way for kids to understand the benefits of volunteering.  –Parent

We continue to work in partnership with the Jewish Volunteer Connection and others to create volunteer opportunities that will allow children to present and share their creativity with others.  Clever Kids has put on multiple shows at local nursing homes, where participants sing, dance, play instruments, tell jokes, and otherwise engage with residents.  These events are led by the kids and include a project where the children and residents work together, as well as a take-home activity book for residents designed by the children. We also recently held a workshop where students designed popsicle stick journal kits for themselves and also to donate to children at a local homeless shelter.

We are grateful for all our volunteers and look forward to many more exciting volunteer opportunities. We rely on volunteers to make the organization run and appreciate your willingness and interest in joining us for these events.

The Magic of Collaboration – Educational Workshops

The theme of our educational workshops this year was all about storytelling.  Each workshop had a tribute to or element of storytelling.  We aimed to inspire kids to explore different creative projects and opportunities. Our workshops included classes on exploring science, creative writing, and art with food.  Many thanks to Eric Energy, Huppit Bartov Miller (afooda) and Richie Frieman.  When surveying parents after our events about their child’s enjoyment of the workshop – 100% responded that their child was extremely satisfied with the event!  Next year, we’ve partnered with the Baltimore Improv Group to hold an introduction to Improv for kids, planned a pottery workshop, and a volunteer event involving donations to a local animal shelter. Please continue to follow us on Facebook for more information about our upcoming educational workshops.
